Introduction:

‘The times are truly potent with an energy never before felt. Truly, the time has come for really enormously significant changes… The Earth stands on the brink. The nuclear play-out is upon us. Her most dire moment has begun.’ Thea, [vishaalstudygroup], Subcontinental Issues, December, 2007.

‘Before dying, falsehood rises in full swing. Still people understand only the lesson of Catastrophe. Will it have to come before they open their eyes to the truth? I ask an effort from all so that it has not to be. It is only the truth that can save us; truth in words, truth in action, truth in will, truth in feelings. It is a choice between serving the truth or being destroyed.’ A message issued by the Mother on 26 November, 1972, just before a major cyclone hit Pondicherry on 5.12.1972.

Thea (Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet) is one of the world’s most prescient seers. Over the last forty years she has produced a body of knowledge unequalled in its scope and specificity and thoroughly grounded in a non-speculative and verifiable cosmology. The evolutionary knowledge she has given out is the product of that most coveted and long sought ‘philosopher’s stone’ that unites the principles of Time and Space in a cosmological model which reveals the primacy of certain eternal and purposeful patterns. With this ‘key of knowledge’ man can, at long last, rise above mere belief and gain a direct experience of the Supreme acting within the physical manifestation. One of the fruits of this ‘Divine Seeing’ or Gnosis is the ability to observe the unfolding of present events within an objective cosmological framework. This provides a back-ground of what might be described as ‘Higher Patterns of Destiny’ within which certain evolutionary objectives are played out on the global stage. Clearly this is a farsighted consciousness with access to the unfolding of future events but not so distant that we cannot observe the super-logic behind what is happening in the present to bring these evolutionary necessities into a meaningful focus. It is only through an integral synthesis of this kind that we are able to understand the troubling events that are pushing our planet to the brink of catastrophe.
For the Seer, the key and ‘centre’ of this integral vision is INDIA that plays a unique role in the world as an Avatar of Nations. She is the one country that can lead the earth to peace and a new world order. But in order to accomplish this goal India must first be made whole and the present artificial divisions of her sacred landmass must be erased so that she may fulfil her dharma and uplift the world. The most troubling impediment to India’s wholeness is the country of Pakistan which was carved out of India in 1947 as an independent Muslim state and which has been at war with her mother country ever since. The growing instability of this nuclear-armed nation represents the greatest threat to world peace that has ever existed. With the escalating violence and chaos in Pakistan, chances of Al-Qaeda, Taliban or other Muslim extremists obtaining a nuclear weapon grow stronger every day. It is increasingly evident that Pakistan, not the Middle East, is the stage where the long feared nuclear showdown is destined to occur. Thea confirms this view, saying: ‘The Earth stands on the brink. The nuclear play-out is upon us. Her most dire moment has begun.’
What most do not know is that this critical situation has been foreseen and discussed in its particulars since 1947 by India’s greatest seers, Sri Aurobindo, the Mother and Thea. Their comments and predictions follow the same pattern as the order and scope of their written works; Sri Aurobindo provides the broad evolutionary overview, the Mother’s Agendas reveal what she heard and saw on the occult planes with her outstanding capacity to measure the Infinite and the Eternal. But it isn’t until the third level and Thea’s work that we are given the precise details of this situation because here the action is observed from the most intimate dimension the human consciousness can experience, the 'centre' or individual Soul. It is from this central ‘Point’ that one acquires the ability to ‘see’ the perfect control in the unfolding of events that accompany the Supramental Creation.

‘There can be no pretence in these gnostic matters. One cannot IMAGINE this or that. I let the play of circumstances guide me, but poised CENTRALLY, and from that position an integration becomes possible…

‘Therefore, before I draw a conclusion regarding an observation I have to have it confirmed variously. Imagination has no role here. When it is the Supermind at work and operations are carried forward by the Supramental Shakti, TRUTH IS THE FOUNDATION...

‘It is fundamental to note the difference between the known predictive arts and the Gnostic Circle. The latter can best be described, as I have often done, as a sort of SUPER-LOGIC. This would be an attribute that the Mind of Light, of Sri Aurobindo’s yogic lexicon, makes possible. It is far from prediction or even prophesy. This is because the seeing depends on interrelatedness, oneness, integration of the parts within the whole. And more. It is the parts among themselves, and then as a whole to the Centre. The latter holds the key to the ability: without that Centre established in one’s being this Super-Logic cannot come about because the integration of the Being and the Becoming is lacking and cannot take place.’

In the following pages we will present an analysis of certain critical issues brought to light in a selection of quotations from the collected works of Sri Aurobindo, the Mother and Thea. The observations of these unique seers surpass all others given their ability to see into the more occult dimensions of what is presently taking place between India and Pakistan. Through the use of an ‘Indo-centric Cosmology’ we are able to observe each participant and event in its proper context and evaluate the unfolding of seemingly catastrophic circumstances from a height that confers an optimistic evolutionary vision.

is a divinely chosen country with a unique spiritual heritage. She is not the earth, rivers and mountains, nor simply the collective name for the inhabitants of this land.

is a living being, conscious of her mission in the world and waiting for the exterior means of its manifestation…

Such beings are as real and more permanently real than the men they influence but they belong to a higher plane, are part of the cosmic consciousness and being and act here on earth by shaping the human consciousness on which they exercise their influence. ‘It is clear that the earth's many latent diseases must come out in the open and find a focus somewhere, as an abscess is the focal point for the disease of the body, our earth body… There is but one place in the world where the issue is being played out really and symbolically – that is

India

. That is where, therefore, the disease of the earth must be focused. … When Pakistan and China attacked India [in 1965], I had a sort of very clear intuition that the conflict, if there is to be one, that must decide the fate of the civilisation, can only be played out in India... ‘The truth of the old Satya that is dead was not different from the Truth of the new Satya that is to be born, for it is Truth that restores itself always and persists. In India, the chosen land, it is preserved; in the soul of India it sleeps, expectant of that soul’s awakening, the soul of India leonine, luminous, locked in the closed petals of the ancient lotus of strength and wisdom, not in her weak, sordid, transient and miserable externals.

The Capricorn Hieroglyph

In the preceding pages we have it on the very highest authority that India is a Power, a Cosmic Godhead, destined to uplift the whole world. Pronouncements such as these can only come from individuals with an impeccable knowledge and realisation of the planes of Truth Consciousness. Those who possess this knowledge and vision are also aware that the laws and principles seen on that plane of Truth have exact physical correspondences and equivalencies on the earth. ‘As Above, So Below’ proclaims the sage; the principles of order and harmony which exist on the higher spiritual planes may also be found in the material domain. These eternal principles manifest first as Cosmic and Planetary harmonies before reaching a highly specific individuation in the physical. And it is through these laws of correspondence and equivalence that one can obtain OBJECTIVE evidence and confirmation of India’s unique role. This is the very essence of the Cosmological principles expressed in the Rig Veda.¹

‘The whole earth and everything it contains is a kind of concentration, a condensation of something which exists in other worlds invisible to the material eye. Each thing manifest here has its principle, idea or essence somewhere in the subtler regions.’ The Mother

‘The features of the Capricorn Hieroglyph superimposed upon the geography of India can only be understood properly by those who know exactly what Capricorn indicates in the harmony of the twelve zodiacal signs. Astrologers from the most ancient times have unanimously considered Capricorn to be

India

’s ruling sign. But no one to my knowledge, had ever seen that this hieroglyph actually delineates

India

’s physical boundaries. But of course it is an

India

whole and intact, as she was before the devastation of Partition. This too was a profound verification:

India

’s true form is delineated by the hieroglyph of the zodiacal sign that is her ruler. That glyph in ancient tradition is called ‘the name of God’, this I knew; but I also knew that everything that I had been seeing concerning India’s central position as the Earth’s Soul is contained in the inner and esoteric experience of Capricorn. In that secret dimension its real mystery was disclosed, its deepest truths… and this could only be understood by someone initiated into the secrets of Capricorn. When this ‘sign’ had been given to me it was as though a seal and sanction had been set upon this work and that Seal would be the everlasting ‘philosopher’s stone’ as it were. It must be understood that the overlay of the zodiacal sign Capricorn on the Indian land-mass is not a matter of coincidence or simply an ‘imposed’ correspondence. This astonishing fact becomes self-evident by overlaying the ‘map’ of the heavens upon the earth. With the 360 degree zodiac laid on the globe at the zero point of the Greenwich meridian, we will observe that the sign Capricorn starts exactly where the Indian landmass begins.

The sign's 30 degrees begin at 60/61 degrees east and continue to the mouth of the Ganges in the Bay of Bengal. The ‘tail’ of the sign is carried over to encompass

Burma

, and from there swings back toward the central body. Through these cosmo-geographical correspondences we discover that

India

IS the sign Capricorn. In fact, one can readily ‘see’ that the ancient hieroglyph forms an exact overlay of the Indian subcontinent. Its perfect alignment with this cardinal point identifies

India

as the ‘Soul of the Earth’ and thus the point of the clearest spiritual vision. What is revealed in these correspondences is an earthly expression of an eternal Divine principle.

In the above map of the world with the addition of the zodiac (360 degrees) laid across the longitude and latitude coordinates starting at Greenwich, India’s Capricorn rulership has been confirmed in both directions. To demonstrate how accurate the geo-cosmology of the New Way is, we note that

India

falls in the sign Capricorn both in longitude (horizontal) and latitude (vertical) measurements.

‘The Supramental Yoga foresees the possibility of a material union with the Divine. It is the union of the “Earth” of the Veda with the divine Principle, an earth which is said to be above our earth, that is to say, the physical being and consciousness of which the world and the body are only images. ‘When a new Age dawns, as Sri Aurobindo announced and cosmology confirms, it means that we have entered a transitional period and a new language must evolve to express more adequately the contemporary condition and demands. We know that the Vedic and Puranic Gods and Goddesses are expressions of cosmic energies. We must also realise that the cosmos is impersonal. Everything we know, every crystallisation of form is that same Energy, however we wish to label it. Indeed, “Truth (that Energy) is one, the wise know it by many names.” Therefore, the new cosmology is simply a tool for drawing aside the veils covering that truth and rediscovering the original Pulse of the civilisation as the unifying factor of a common destiny.’ Thea, The Burden of a Destiny, December, 2000.

‘The cosmological model used in this exposition is the same known in ancient Vedic times. Hence so much importance was given then, as we note from the Hymns and Scriptures that have been handed down, to the phenomenon of the seasons, the measure of the Day and of the Year. Particularly revered was the shortest day of the year, or the beginning of the Winter Solstice, Capricorn (Makar). A scrutiny of the Shastras discloses various formulae specifically for determining this special point in time. We can safely say that the ancient Rishi was obsessed with Time, for Time regulates these movements which find their perfect harmony in the figure of the Year. Thus the sacrifice is known to be experienced in twelve stages, culminating in the Tenth, which is the 10th month, Capricorn, the period of the victory of the Aryan Warrior. Capricorn from most ancient times has been considered by all schools of astrology to rule

India

. It is this same tenth-month victory that we celebrate this year, 1999, as the culmination of the centenary Navaratri. In the Map we see that the hieroglyph of the tenth (month) zodiacal sign whose origin is so ancient that it is lost in the mists of time, can be accurately superimposed on the body of Akhand Bharat. ‘In other words, it is when the nine-months’ sacrifice is prolonged through the tenth, it is when the Navagwas become the ten Dashagwas by the seven-headed thought of Ayasya, the tenth Rishi, that the Sun is found… but what is meant by the figure of the months? For it now becomes clear that it is a figure, a parable; the year is symbolic, the months are symbolic. It is in the revolution of the year that the recovery of the lost Sun and the lost cows is effected, for we have the explicit statement in X.62-2… “by the truth, in the revolution of the year, they broke Vala”…’

‘The expression in the hymns, daso maso ataran, indicates that there was some difficulty in getting through the full period of ten months. It is during this period apparently that the sons of darkness had the power to assail the sacrifice; for it is indicated that it is only by the confirming of the thought which conquers Swar, the solar world, that the Rishis are able to get through the ten months…’

‘I hold for you in the waters the thought that wins possession of heaven by which the Navagwas [nine] passed through the ten months…’ (V.45-11)

‘This victory is won in twelve periods of the upward journey, represented by the revolution of the twelve months of the sacrificial year, the periods corresponding to the successive dawns of a wider and wider truth, until the tenth month secures the victory…What may be the precise significance of the nine rays and the ten is a more difficult question which we are not yet in a position to solve.’ Sri Aurobindo, The Secret of the Veda, 1915.

The Gunas

The three qualitative modes of Nature or ‘Gunas’ are inextricably intertwined in all cosmic existence. A clear understanding of these triadic energy flows – Rajas, Sattwa, and Tamas, is essential in knowing the truth of things, their essence, law, and operation. It is the very basis of the ‘Divine Maya’ or measure which Sri Aurobindo described as, ‘…a comprehending and containing consciousness capable of embracing, measuring and limiting and therefore formative; it is that which outlines, measures out, moulds forms in the formless, psychologises and seems to make knowable the Unknowable, geometrises and seems to make measurable the Limitless.’

India

’s geographical mass is delineated by the Capricorn hieroglyph which contains the three “gunas” or qualities of energy flow. We can observe that

Pakistan

falls within the area covered by the Rajas guna, the Kshatriya or warrior element, consequently this energy flow will be its sole expression. It is therefore understandable that

Pakistan

The Nine Nights of Durga

‘The geography of the nation is a visual expression of Bharat Mata. The Map of India with the Capricorn hieroglyph is the measure. Moreover the symbol is divided into three parts, each of which is an expression of one of the triadic modes of the Mother, the gunas: Rajas, Sattwa and Tamas; or else Creation, Preservation, and Destruction (dissolution).

‘In

India

’s present state, the gunas are not a threefold harmony. There are gaps, pieces cut away. Similarly, in the several independent nations that have been carved out of Indian soil in this century, we witness an imbalance wherein only one of the gunas exists. In the case of

Pakistan

, being comprised solely of Rajas can explain the nation’s compulsive reliance on the military solution. In its present incomplete form,

Pakistan

cannot be expected to house a true democracy. Forces will consistently conspire to break up any formula that demands a fullness the geo-cosmology of that area does not contain. Similarly with

Bangladesh

. There it is Tamas and not Rajas the predominant mode. The destructive power of nature is often experienced in this armpit of the nation in her full and unmitigated form. Tamas/Destruction rules this area, so accurately described by Sri Aurobindo in a letter to his brother in the early part of this century.

‘You cannot separate what happens in any of the States covered by the Symbol–Map separate from one another. Particularly now when the showdown has come in what I have always predicted would happen, should what has been noted through the new cosmology be overlooked. Remember that I have always stated that the nuclear playout would be centred on

India

. Now more than ever this reveals itself to be true because

Pakistan

is a nuclear weapons state with more than 12 nuclear weapons[2] at its disposal, and with rockets ready to land them anywhere in

India

, north or south, at a moment’s notice. If

Pakistan

collapses or if militants take over (a real possibility with Al Qaeda headquarters lodged there), control of those deadly weapons falls into the hands of Islamic Militants.

‘The Rajas section of the Map-Symbol explains why

Pakistan

has taken the particular course that it has from the beginning of its coming to power. It is all RAJAS but seeking to act on its own, disconnected from the rest of its triune manifestation; which would be the rest of

India

. Similarly

Bangladesh

, but with the difference that it falls under the Tamas rule, hence it is less ‘intrusive’ we may say. Only when the three parts are rejoined can there be a resolution to the troubles the subcontinent faces.

‘K. S. Munshi, a Congress politician, was granted an audience with Sri Aurobindo, one of the few exceptions he made in the last years of his life.

‘…At the end of the interview, Munshi asked if there was anything Sri Aurobindo wanted to say. Immediately he asked, “When will

India

be reunited?” Taken aback, Munshi explained that he could not foresee it in his lifetime. Until 1947 he had worked for a united

India

. But he considered the partition to have been positive in so far as it allowed

India

and

Pakistan

to develop in their own separate ways. Sri Aurobindo insisted that

Pakistan

was “fraud, force and treachery”, and declared: “

India

will be reunited. I see it clearly.” After an exchange of views on local politics, Munshi asked, “When are you coming out of Pondicherry?” Sri Aurobindo replied: “I cannot say. I must first com-plete my work here.”

‘This was in July of 1950. Today we witness that same fraud and treachery. It is the history of

Pakistan

from the beginning of its existence. But now He has “come out” of retirement. 26/11 marked that point in the trajectory of his work which extends from 1872 to today.’ Thea, Sri Aurobindo on Pakistan, December, 2008.

India

is free, but she has not achieved unity, only a fissured and broken freedom... The whole communal division into Hindu and Muslim seems to have hardened into the figure of a permanent political division of the country. It is to be hoped that the Congress and the Nation will not accept the settled fact as for ever settled, or as anything more than a temporary expedient. For if it lasts,

India

may be seriously weakened, even crippled; civil strife may remain always possible, possible even a new invasion and foreign conquest. The partition of the country must go...For without it the destiny of

India

‘The destiny of

India

is guided by a power that descends directly from the world of the Truth-Consciousness; but unless the nation recognises this, it can only respond to a leadership of a lesser force and suffer the ensuing consequences.’ Thea, The New Way, 1981.

Part 2: The 'Eye of Shiva'

Following the Capricorn hieroglyphic relationship to the body of Bharat Mata, we can observe that the most sensitive point of the Map is located at longitude 76 degrees east and latitude 36 degrees north in the area known as Kashmir. This mountainous region at the extreme north of the Indian subcontinent is considered to be the most sacred point on the body of Mother India. In order to convey a sense of the occult power contained at this point Thea has named it the ‘Eye of Shiva’. While it is a constitutional territory of India, it is now de facto in the possession of Pakistan, a situation which has rendered this ‘Seeing Eye’ temporarily blind. As a consequence of this occult blindness, a unified India cannot rise.

Kashmir and the Convergence of Time, Space and Destiny

‘Measuring halfway into the sign of 30 degrees we uncover what may be considered the spinal column of Bharat, as if it were the Goddess herself embodied in the land, as indeed she is. This brings us to the 76^th parallel. Starting from the ‘Crown’ at 36 degrees north, and descending down and through the land, this spinal column is akin to an axis. It is the 15^th degree of the sign, or the midway point. To better understand the symbolism, the traditional significance of Capricorn comes to our aid: it is the sign of the Mountain and the 15^th degree is its apex, indicated herein at 76 degrees longitude east and 36 north. This falls in what is now occupied Kashmir. In this cosmology it is known as the Eye of Shiva. It is the power that holds the dharma together through time and space throughout the ages, the keeper of the keys of Destiny.

‘We may refer to the Puranas to help us understand the power of this point on the Indian landmass. It is the mythical Mt. Meru, which the diagram above makes clear. But when we MEASURE by means of this applied cosmology, Mount Meru is no longer mythical. ‘Pakistan and Bangladesh represent the arms of Mother India, the portion of her Body that signifies might, force rajasic power: the capacity to act and carry to completion. This is perfectly in accord with the inherent truth of Islam. This is what Mohammedanism brought to India; this is what was needed for the nation, to rescue her from the yoke of an effete asceticism which Buddhism had inflicted upon her; to be subsequently able to fulfil her destiny in a world that in the future would be largely under the rajas guna.

‘These arms though they stand severed from her Body before the human vision, are ever part of Bharatmata; and there is no earthly power that can in any way alter this reality. Shiva knows, and his knowing is the power inherent in the Divine Will. The Eye of Shiva is the seat of that Will. Is it any wonder then that this portion of Mother India is coveted by both Muslims and Hindus alike?’ Thea, The New Way, 1981.

‘Kashmir was not Muslim, but made forcibly so. And now it is a “Muslim State”. How must the Kashmiri Pundits feel at losing their ancient land?

‘The astonishing thing is the Indian just does not care. No one raises a voice about the fact that this was one of the worst cases of ethnic cleansing the world has seen after the Holocaust. The BJP that is so pro-Hindu, did absolutely nothing for the Kashmiri Pundits during the whole time they were in power. I think I did more by the articles I wrote, trying to stir the inner flame, even as I am doing for the Hindu of today via the reform of the calendar. I know that nothing will help these people except an occult means of regeneration and release of energy… Hindus must find the strength within, but COLLECTIVELY. Auroville and the Mother’s Temple

In 1910 Sri Aurobindo received an ‘Adesh’, an internal command: ‘…go to Pondicherry’. It was here that he and the Mother would establish their ‘ashram’. But this was not your typical Indian ashram. It was a point prefigured by the Supramental Shakti to serve as a microcosmic world where they could apply the ‘lever’ of Yoga and thereby bring about a definite change in the entire body of the Earth. It is no coincidence that the former French colony of Pondicherry was founded near the ‘axis’ running through the Indian landmass at the 12^th degree of Capricorn, directly connected to the source of Ganga.

Owing to the laws of correspondence and reduced equivalency, wherein the microcosm is equal to the macrocosm, their Ashram became a cross section of humanity, a representative field of the forces that Sri Aurobindo and his Line ³ had come to transform. As a consequence, the spiritual community or human laboratory which formed around the Evolutionary Avatars was not exclusively populated with highly evolved spiritual beings. It also contained individuals representing the most irredeemable evolutionary forces of resistance and denial. The hallmark of these retrograde individuals was and continues to be an unwillingness to recognise the Truth and to deny and suppress it when it comes. With the subsequent passing of the first two members of the Solar Line, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, we have seen a resurgence of these retrograde forces.

They have usurped the authority of the Avataric Line, seized the seat of their work and entombed their message in an Aurobindonian dogma⁴ over which they now preside. The well documented continuation of Sri Aurobindo’s lineage was rejected out of hand as well as Thea’s published body of work. Her titles, which represent the most detailed account of Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s yogic accomplishments, have been banned from the official list of titles for over 30 years. Today individuals with no realisation continue to suppress and erode this epochal work by consolidating the erroneous view that Sri Aurobindo and the Mother failed in their work and mission. This erosion has been compounded by writers like Peter Heehs, who, in his recent book, ‘The Lives of Sri Aurobindo’ ⁵ rejects the evolutionary context of Sri Aurobindo’s appearance on the earth and encourages in his readers a complete disinterest in Sri Aurobindo’s ‘Avatarhood’, an omission which he excuses as a distracting hagiographic idealisation.

Aurobindo never claimed the distinction for himself, and I don’t think anyone alive is in a position to say one way or the other...' For persons of knowledge, the arrogance of this statement is simply breathtaking. Unfortunately it reflects a long standing attitude of many in Auroville and the Ashram who call themselves devotees of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. It is as if the Vedic tradition of the Avatar is meaningless, even though it is sanctified by the Gita in Sri Krishna's own words, and Sri Aurobindo's and the Mother’s as well. Moreover, Heehs’s contention that no one alive today is in a position to say one way or another belies an embarrassing lack of research on his part or a calculated decision to ignore the volumes of objective proofs that have been published by Thea and accepted and catalogued by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives, an organisation which lists Heehs as one of its founding member. Given the voluminous and non-speculative proofs of Sri Aurobindo’s Avataric credentials on file in the Ashram Archives and Heehs’s ready access to this material, one can only wonder why he would make such a disingenuous statement.
While it seems almost inconceivable that the work of the Evolutionary Avatars could be held hostage in such a way, these events follow a familiar theme found in earlier Avataric Epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, which depict a legendary struggle between the forces of darkness and light or, perhaps more to the point in this age, the use of both positive and negative influences to achieve the purposes of the One. What is nonetheless required for Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s message to rise, take hold and endure is the final unmasking and expulsion of these retrograde forces from the occult seat of their work.

‘The situation has reached a nadir in our times when every Guru is described by his devotees as the Avatar. On the other hand, we can gauge the full extent of the darkness when we observe that the disciples and devotees of the real Avatar of Vishnu’s line deny him his birthright! ‘It is a fact that every publication issued from Ashram and Auroville sources, Heehs’s included, passes on to the public – though the intention appears to be other – that both Sri Aurobindo and the Mother failed in their missions. Not one publication can factually prove otherwise; and since there is no one in your circles who can state the contrary and receive the accepted “imprimatur”, this is the result: both Sri Aurobindo and the Mother failed “to deliver”. Or if they did, we mortals are not qualified to prove what stands beyond human comprehension. And since this is your belief, you must accept full responsibility for spreading the idea that they seemed to have failed.

Part 3: The Mother's Inner Chamber

As she neared the end of her life, the Mother gave her final and most precious gift to humanity. It was a plan for a Vedic temple. Its inner chamber, which she saw on the plane of Truth-Consciousness, was a masterpiece of sacred architecture, a mathematical perfection revealing an entire system of OBJECTIVE cosmological knowledge, some examples of which we have presented in this paper. It was to be built according to the principles laid down in the ‘Mayamata’, the ancient Vedic temple text, and on the exact geographic point on India’s hieroglyphic body where its occult axial power could establish itself, linking the plane of Truth-consciousness and the world of man. Owing to this correspondence, the Mother's temple possesses an occult equivalence to the ‘Soul of the Earth’. Its ‘Mt. Meru’ axis bears an exact geographical correspondence with the source of the Ganga, the River of Time that flows through India’s geo-cosmic body. While it is extremely simple in design, her temple was the highest order of sacred architecture that has ever been revealed. To alter one number, one dimension, would be equivalent to throwing the entire system into chaos, yet this is exactly what happened following the Mother's passing. Owing to the ignorance and bad will of her disciples, her immaculate vision was mutilated beyond recognition. One by one the elements of its design were fundamentally altered until not one was left intact. When this abomination began to take form in concrete and steel, its distorted dimensions began to produce calamitous effects in the field of its occult influence.
    Today the usurpers of Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s work, after decades of irrefutable proofs to the contrary, continue to insist that the abomination known as ‘the Matrimandir’⁶ that stands in Auroville is a faithful reproduction of the Mother’s original plan. This is yet another example of the irrational denial and occult blindness that prevents the rise of a unified India.

‘When one takes the Mother’s plan in its entirety there can be no speculation as to its meaning or purpose; we cannot use it as a symbol that is “all things to all men”. It is precise, it is objective, it is a perfect unity and therefore its sense is undeniable, its message overwhelmingly clear. Its purpose evident in every curve, in every line, in every centimetre. ‘The Sons of Darkness quickly took possession of the sacred Vision and distorted it to allow for their apparent victory. What they did was simply to fall under a larger influence that then used their resistance and denial to “further the purposes of the One”. We now have a completed structure purported to be “the Mother’s original”, but which these Chronicles have exposed as made in man’s image and not at all in the Divine’s. But this shadow does indeed serve the Work by offering the seeker a choice: this or that, the Mother’s or man’s. The Mother’s carries us into the Solar World; the latter is “…the things men do; they do it more or less well, and then it lives, and then it dies, and then it changes, and then it becomes deformed, and then… - everything they have done”… ⁷ The result stands before the world: a field where nothing of the higher laws can operate. All is imposed from outside, and on an increasing scale because the more power that is fed to the periphery, the greater the inward collapse when there is no centre, no “birth that fills the void”.

‘The Mother knew what the consequences would be for the field she brought into being in 1968. In the single paragraph quoted above, she stated exactly what would happen, even noting that it would be useless to say anything because “they would not believe me”. We (MAC)⁸ have been witnesses since 1971, the foundation year of the shadow temple, to this disbelief, because that is all the Sons and Daughters of Darkness can offer even in the face of a descent of Knowledge unparalleled since the Vedic Age: denial, disbelief, negation, rejection of the light. This is their mantra. They offer nothing in place of that denial but their own limited perception and self-important ego demands as an answer to the truth of the New Way presented in these Chronicles. The entire Supramental Descent must be denied just so that their rule of darkness can prevail, for not one has a realisation that builds. Not one has even glimpsed that “future realisation” which they sought to destroy from the first moment the Mother revealed its contours. For the Sons of Darkness instinctively knew that with the Mother’s Vision in place there would be no possibility for their rule. ‘…distortion has displaced the “soul of knowledge”, as Sri Aurobindo described in his “The Secret of the Veda”, “…The letter lived on when the spirit was forgotten; the symbol, the body of the doctrine, remained, but the soul of knowledge had fled from its coverings.” It is exactly what we find in the Shadow Temple in Auroville: distortion.’ Thea, The Question of Alignment, January, 2009.

‘I have a book on my shelf, The Hindu Temple by George Michell, “an introduction to its meaning and forms”, with a wonderful series of photos and floor plans. Michell writes, “Only if the temple is constructed correctly according to a mathematical system can it be expected to function in harmony with the mathematical basis of the universe. The inverse of this belief is also held: an architectural text, the Mayamata, adds that if the measurement of the temple is in every way perfect, there will be perfection in the universe as well… The Hindu temple needs this perfection in order for the community to benefit from the wisdom the sages have handed down through various means, one of which is architecture.” ’ Thea, The Origins and Nature of Hindu Decline, November, 2006.

‘The effects of the power of disunity and disintegration stemming from disproportionate forms are seen at the level of this Centre (the Sri Aurobindo Ashram) itself and the national level as well – especially in what concerns those whose destinies are written in the structure (the Solar and Lunar Lines) and those elements prominent in the national life who are joined to the Mother in some way. There too the confusion becomes acute and events begin which can prove in the long run to weaken the effectiveness of the Mother’s force at that level. This is especially felt in the beginning by those who have a direct or indirect connection with Auroville. For it is there that the power establishes itself. But ultimately, as the disproportionate structure grows, its influence widens and strengthens. Ultimately it can bring about a total disintegration on the national level, just as ultimately, if its form is proportionate it can help to bring about the total harmonisation of all levels.

‘Effects of such a disintegrating occult force are subtle, impossible for the human being to perceive and understand. This power is a hundredfold intensified when given a material support such as Matrimandir. When this happens we find that suddenly, almost imperceptibly, the atmosphere begins to change, the area becomes pervaded by a fog that clouds the people’s consciousness. Friends turn to foes, falsehood is held up as truth, and worst of all – no one can perceive, no one can see the truth. Each one believes himself to be its upholder, when in fact, each one is subjected to the same toxic force, living under the same cloud, being made use of for the one end: disintegration, disunity, division – in a word, the opposite of Truth’s goal. And this is being accom-plished by a power greater than the human, which he cannot combat without a psychic realisation, or without at least some touch of the soul as his support and guiding light. The matter becomes doubly difficult when the dark power places itself at the Centre, at the very Soul point and there disguises itself as this very thing. In so doing, it consolidates its hold and enjoys a unique protection, by taking refuge in the very heart of the organism. Thus as it grows its eradication one day would necessitate the destruction of the new creation itself. Once it has taken hold, to uproot it would require such a tremendous shock that the tender new creation could not withstand the impact and would ultimately be carried away in the process. If the dark power is to go, it seeks to establish itself in such a position that it is able to carry with it the new world about to be born, to carry it down into the whirlpool of a primordial Chaos. For this reason the Heart is its most coveted object, and it must at the outset establish itself there. It can do so because of the void, the inner void of the Titan symbolised by the void in the room (Matrimandir) the hole in the floor at the place of the core, - the Soul. When that was set in place, when that phase of the construction was reached, the area was left vulnerable and easily succumbed. It is interesting to note that this coincided exactly with the time the Mother left her body in 1973.’ Thea, What is Wrong with the Matrimandir, 1977.

After the passing of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, there was a complete breakdown of order in the Ashram and Auroville and unremitting conflict between the various camps competing for authority over the Guru’s teachings. Because of mismanagement, lawsuits, and infighting between these various factions, Auroville had to be taken over by the Indian government in 1988 against the Mother’s express command.⁹ Since then it has been governed by the Auroville Foundation whose board is appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Mother’s ‘City of Dawn’, meant to be a ‘Centre’ for the realisation of human unity, was thereby reduced to the status of an arrogant fundamentalist and elitist cult that has operated for over twenty years with the de facto approval of the Indian government. Under their auspices, crores of rupees have been raised for the construction of a Matrimandir which was knowingly misrepresented to the public as faithful to the Mother’s original design. Numerous attempts by persons of knowledge to correct this travesty and hold open and transparent hearings on the sacred dimensions of the Mother’s Vedic design have been rebuffed by those with vested interests who fear having their deceitful activities exposed to the light of day. Auroville, the one point on the earth where the Mother said that ‘Truth can and must reign’ has been occupied for decades by forces of deception, distortion, and misdirection. This cannot go on. If India is to recover her divine birthright and fulfil her role as the Light of the world, Auroville and the Ashram must be brought into line with the needs of Indian Unity and there must be an immediate end to the obstruction and censorship of Thea’s written works. Moreover, full and open hearings must be held on the Matrimandir that has been so disingenuously put forward as true and faithful to the Mother’s Vedic plan.

‘In March of 1976 a decisive breakthrough was made and the question of India’s central role, even in the case of a destruction, came up. This time the breakthrough involved the Mother’s Chamber. An unparalleled yogic realisation disclosed the deepest meaning in the discrepancies between what was indicated in the measurements and design of the original plan the Mother gave of the Chamber, where the destiny of the Earth and India is written, and the revised plan of the builders of the temple in Auroville. Not only did these discrepancies indicate the destruction India might have to face, but they revealed to me the imminent and conclusive split between the Ashram and Auroville, a rift that soon after came about and remains total to this day.

‘Yet the most crucial aspect of this breakthrough revealed that there was every likelihood of a very great destruction on Earth. But whatever this would be, one thing was certain: India would somehow be central to the matter. Skambha & ÆON Centre of Cosmology

In this age of the Supermind we have seen the advent of three teachers the likes of which have never before graced this earth. Two of them have come and gone leaving the third, Thea, to deliver the irrefutable proofs of their Avataric credentials and clarify the details of their extra-ordinary work and mission. After Auroville went dark, and the symbols of Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s epochal work were systematically destroyed, Thea moved to ‘Skambha’ the seat of her work in the mountains of Tamil Nadu, where she established the ÆON Centre of Cosmology. From Skambha, which is exalted in the Vedic scriptures as the source of a Truth-Conscious Seeing, Thea produced a body of objective knowl-edge unequalled in human history. What makes her work so utterly unique is Thea’s ability to unveil the most coveted of Earth’s mysteries through a contemporary synthesis of myth, scripture, sacred architecture, number theory, and cosmology that together reveal the hidden correspondences between the individual and the planet he inhabits. She has worked assiduously to not only unveil these ancient secrets but to APPLY their knowledge in a contemporary context that offers a seamless vision of an all-embracing truth and an entirely New Way of conscious evolution.

‘…The true sage is not he who picks up a bit here and there and ties these concepts together and calls this “synthesis”, but rather the one who reveals a greater face of truth which of itself sets each other piece in its rightful place. It embraces the past but only because it reveals at the same time that which lies far beyond it. Yet if it is that truth, it must show itself as having issued forth from the realm of the eternal, the timeless and the infinite. ‘...The first condition of the Supermind is exactness, clearness and order both in the total and the details and their relations. Therefore it is a great advantage if there are these elements in the data upon which I have to work and a great disadvantage if they are absent.’ Sri Aurobindo, a letter, February, 1923.

‘…How divinely overseen it has been that each member of the Trinity would play his and her role so impeccably throughout their lives. Like nothing else, this reveals the controlling hand of Vishnu of whom the members of the Solar Line are emanations. They are indeed His offspring because that controlling hand is akin to the hands of a great cosmic clock of perpetual motion. He gives the clock its eternal pulsations to keep it in motion throughout the Manifestation “…yuge yuge”…”from Age to Age”, as Sri Krishna declares in the Gita (4.8). For this reason we call it the Sanatana Dharma, the Eternal Truth. The descent of Vishnu’s emanations, the Dasavataras or Line of Ten, is the backbone of Hinduism. ‘The greatest thing that can ever be, the most marvellous thing since the beginning of creation, the miracle has happened... A new world, yes, a completely new world is born and here. Yet even now, there are very few people who are aware of its birth and of the difference it brings into the world.’ The Mother, On the occasion of the Supramental Manifestation in the Subtle-Physical of the Earth, February, 1956.

The birth of this new world follows the ancient Vedic dictum that the material creation is born and expands from a core, a central point, like the hub of a wheel. All that happens in the periphery extends from and has its origin in the Hub or Centre. From that Centre alone can one obtain a true vision of the order of things decreed behind the veil and taking form in the physical. Only from that ‘Skambha’ can we begin to See in such a way that nothing that we can observe in the Physical will be seen as separate from its Source again. Sri Aurobindo called this gnostic vision the Truth-Consciousness and today Skambha is the only place on earth where one can be initiated into these mysteries and attain that coveted realisation. Skambha’s initiates are those fortunate few who must take up the reins of the knowledge and inspire the Vedic renaissance that will uplift the world.

‘ ... there is no presiding spiritual elite to guide the collective body on the basis of an understanding of the higher laws which govern life on this Earth and make it possible for a bridge to be opened to other dimensions, down or upon which the things of the future world of light and harmony and power and truth shall pass. The time has now come for such an elect to come forward, for the moment is upon us when a rise in the collective level of consciousness is imperative.’ Thea, The New Way, 1981.

And who better to lead this spiritual elect than Thea, third in the Solar line, a native of Capricorn, born at the 15^th degree of its sacred form.

The Veda

The Indian Vedas are the oldest extant spiritual scripture on earth. Its name, ‘Veda’ – the Knowledge – is the received name for the highest spiritual truth of which the human mind is capable. Over the millennia however this high knowledge became lost or corrupted. ‘As the Veda had passed from the sage to the priest’, wrote Sri Aurobindo, ‘so now it began to pass from the hands of the priest into the hands of the scholar. And in that keeping it suffered the last mutilation of its sense and the last diminution of its true dignity and sanctity.’ Today, owing to the demands of the lived yogic experience, there are very few individuals who can grasp the inner meaning of the Veda. Notably, the two individuals in our time that have unveiled the deepest perceptions of the Vedic Rishis are Sri Aurobindo the 9^th Avatar of Puranic tradition and Thea, third in the line that he heads.

‘I believe the Vedas to hold a sense which neither mediaeval India nor modern Europe has grasped, but which was perfectly plain to the early Vedantic thinkers. Max Müller has understood one thing by the Vedic mantras, Sayana has understood another, Yaska had his own interpretations of their antique diction, but none of them understood what Yajñavalkya and Ajatashatrou understood.... It is because we do not understand the Vedas that three fourths of the Upanishads are a sealed book to us. Even of the little we think we can understand, much has been insecurely grasped and superficially comprehended.... For want of this key profound scholars have fumbled and for want of this guidance great thinkers gone astray, — Max Müller emitted his wonderful utterance about the “babblings of humanity's nonage”.

‘Shankara left so much of his text unexplained or put it by as inferior truth for the ignorant, Vivekananda found himself compelled to admit his non-comprehension of the Vedantin's cosmological ideas and mention them doubtfully as curious speculations. Only when we thoroughly know the great Vedic ideas in their totality shall we be able entirely to appreciate the profound harmonious and grandiose system of thought of our early forefathers.

‘Religious movements and revolutions have come and gone or left their mark but after all and through all the Veda remains to us our Rock of the Ages, our eternal foundation.... The Upanishads, mighty as they are, only aspire to bring out, arrange philosophically in the language of later thinking and crown with the supreme name of Brahman the eternal knowledge enshrined in the Vedas. Yet for some two thousand years at least no Indian has really understood the Vedas.’ Sri Aurobindo, India’s Rebirth, [bold emphasis added].

‘The Rig Vedic Myth is the same story of the evolution of human consciousness as that contained in the Zodiac.’ Thea, Private Correspondence regarding Secrets of the Earth 2009.

‘…A simple perusal of the praises to Vishnu (RV, I, 154) will prove that the so-called Western Zodiac was not only fully known in Vedic times but that it was a fundamental part of the culture (PNB, 1981). Vishnu's famous three strides (to measure the universe) cannot be more revealing. The first `step' is like a lion (Leo), according to the Veda; the second is a bull (Taurus); the third, and most revealing of all, is the Friend. This is the same Aquarius of Agastya's birth, which is also known as the sign of the Friend. More conclusively, they are given in their correct backward moving order, and are Vishnu's own zodiacal domains because of their quality of PRESERVATION (“Fixed” in zodiacal terminology, stable, balancing). This is just one among many explicit references in the Rigveda to the tropical zodiac with the same symbols still in use throughout the world, except in India.

‘To further illustrate their universal reach, we find the very same images recorded in The Revelation of St John (Chapter 12, 7.), written on the Greek island, Patmos, around 70 AD (PNB, 1976). With respect to that same cosmic sea the visionary sees four “beasts” therein: the first is a Lion, the second is a Calf, the third is a Man, and the fourth an Eagle. If the Eagle, the fourth sign, was left out of Vishnu's measuring it is because this Eagle is Garuda, his own carrier. He begins his measuring from that point in the wheel, also known as Scorpio, and takes “three steps”. Scorpio, otherwise known as the zodiacal Eagle, would be the fourth in correct sequence, similar to John's text.’ Thea, Cosmology in Rigveda — the third premise, July, 2002.

‘The perfect truth of the Veda, where it is now hidden, can only be recovered by the same means by which it was originally possessed. Revelation and experience are the doors of the Spirit. It cannot be attained either by logical reasoning or by scholastic investigation… [Sanskrit text]…”Not by explanation of texts nor by much learning”, “not by logic is this realisation attainable.” Logical reasoning and scholastic research can only be aids useful for confirming to the intellect what has already been acquired by revelation and spiritual experience. ‘It seems that both the demands of truth and the spiritual needs of mankind in this age call for a restoration of the Vedic truths... ‘The key to the difference between the Veda and what followed, is the point Sri Aurobindo makes when he states that dristi, sruti, smriti, ketu formed the foundation of the Vedic experience. These are illuminations that arise solely within one’s inner being, never through dissolution of the nexus of one’s consciousness by extension to the Beyond. Yet though this Earth-orientation is the primary ingredient in a true Vedic quest, its very first premise, it is entirely overlooked today. ‘…history is indeed recorded in the Veda, as well as in the Epics, but one has to use correct cosmic formulas to make this discovery, bearing in mind that the ancients were not at all concerned with keeping records for posterity as we do today… Their concern was the vast movement of consciousness and the oneness of micro and macrocosm; and the eternal character of the cosmos is what adds a timeless value to the language they used to compose the hymns. If we learn that language we can easily understand what appear to be cryptic phrases. However, we must also bear in mind that the Rigveda is not a textbook or a manual. It is a collection of praises, hymns, in a free-flowing language whose multi-dimensions are largely ignored today. But in the Vedic Age, as the scripture reveals, this language was universal and required no elaboration. ‘The Vedas, after all, were written by people who remembered a radical experience, which must have taken place on earth at a given moment, as an example of what was to come. (This always happens in the yoga: a first radical experience comes like a herald of the future realisation.) So in the terrestrial yoga – in the yoga of the earth, of the planet earth – there was a moment when it came; they who are called the forefathers must have created, through their effort and their yoga, at least an image of the supramental realisation. And those who wrote the Vedas, who composed all these hymns, remembered or kept the tradition of that experience. Part 4: Calendar Reform

In the Vedic Age, the seers formulated a plan of ritual celebration designed to bring about a profound connection between the individual and the Earth he inhabits by highlighting certain common temporal correspondences. These rituals were designed to emphasise meaningful passages and exact balance points in the Earth’s unchanging movement through the ecliptic. This ritual calendar was not the product of astronomical or scientific measurements but the inner realisation of the seer who alone could appreciate the deep equivalencies between the Earth and the human soul. In that illumined age it was clearly understood that only a seer of the highest quality could formulate such precise correspondences. But over the ages the astronomer began to replace the seer in matters of Divine Measure and this high knowledge was corrupted and finally lost. Today nearly all Hindu temples base their ritual celebrations on an Astronomical rather than a Vedic system of measure. The ‘Nirayana’, Sidereal system presently in use, is based upon the unstable and constantly moving constellations rather than the stable ‘Tropical’ ecliptic used by the Rishis. It is unreliable, confusing and cannot produce that mystical connection to the inner worlds. As a result of its use, almost the entire Hindu Samaj celebrates the most important Hindu festival, the Makar Sankranti or Winter Solstice on 14 January, some 23 days after the actual Winter Solstice. How can this happen? Every school child knows that the Winter Solstice-Shortest Day of the Year is not a matter of interpretation. It is an unmistakable event that occurs every year on 21 December. Yet today in India, you have an entire culture under the spell of a demonstrable error unknowingly repeating empty rituals that insure their continued confusion and collective blindness. Few may admit it, but it is precisely this kind of un-Vedic calendar measure that sets the faithful on a path of adharma and prevents both individual and nation from rising to fulfil their mission. If these errors are to be corrected, the matter of Calendar Reform must be taken up by a body of qualified individuals including temple officials and Veda realisers who can restore the proper ‘Sayana’ measure based upon profound yogic formulas given out in great detail in the Rig Veda itself.

‘The temple is the focal point of Hindu society. This is not to state that Vedic sacrifices can only be performed in temples, but simply that the temple with its presiding pundits and priests is usually where the timing of rituals is established for the community at large. Therefore, because the calendar of festivals and sacred obser-vances serves as a binding web for the civilisation, it naturally stands that the pundit’s duty is to respect the correct time factor as prescribed by the Veda itself, so that a harmony arises between Hindu society, the Earth and the cosmic surround. And for this binding power to be effectively established, the perfectly precise Zero Point, or Ayanamsha, where the Earthly and the Heavenly converge, is essential. But the position today is that false and un-Vedic measures are in vogue; these are examples of the “lost Sun” which, according to the Veda, must be retrieved from the cave of powers hostile to Truth.

‘Hindu society stands amidst the chaos that this loss engendered. Therefore we must now make order out of the chaos by discussing the restoration of the correct calendar as a very first step for the regeneration of Vedic civilisation.’ Thea, The Zero, the Veda, and the Divine Measure of the Year, May, 2006.

‘The time-axis of Hindu society was dislodged long before the first invaders appeared. It was thus crumbling from within; but the strength of the ancient system is revealed in that despite this strategy of undermining, it has taken almost 2000 years to reach the point of near total collapse. Or, as Sri Aurobindo called it, a “critical cross-roads” of the nation's destiny. Never like today has India faced such a “crisis of destiny”. Predictably, never like now has the civilisation experienced such utter confusion regarding its time structure affecting the whole society. This has reached the point where there is no consensus among the contemporary pundits regarding the truth that lies right before their eyes: the shortest day of the year or the Makar Sankranti.’ Thea, Caste, Culture and Cosmos, January, 2002.

‘From antiquity the Vedic/Hindu civilisation has been founded upon certain eternal truths, forming the basis of the ancient dharma. It is a mythic civilisation, rooted in the cosmic harmonies which permeate every facet of its culture, not merely as a passive reflection of a static cosmos, but as an applied dynamic knowledge. With the passage of the Ages, knowledge of these laws and harmonies became clouded over. The ancient Vedic scriptures, repository of these immutable truths, succumbed to interpretations which fragmented their original unity. As a consequence their sublime truths were either misinterpreted or lost. What arose in their place was a secular, scientific model of cosmic phenomena, imposing its own committed observations upon the celestial sphere. The most glaring evidence of this loss, brought about through a disconnection with Time, is the misalignment of the Hindu calendar. The Makar Sankranti, for example, which celebrates the change of the Sun’s Directions from the Lower Hemisphere (Daksinayana) to the Upper Hemisphere (Uttarayana) is now celebrated on January 14th some 23 days after the Winter Solstice. ‘Q. Pandit Nehru encouraged scientists to lead the way in calendar reform, but you say that science itself has been the problem. What do you mean?’

‘A. It is not the duty of scientists to interpret Vedic injunctions. This is not their domain. It is the duty of men and women versed in the language of cosmic harmonies based on direct yogic experiences, of the Vedic type, I must add. Clearly in the Committee for Calendar Reform in 1953, there was no such person. In my experience I have not come across anyone who has undergone a sadhana for this express purpose. The result is what we have today – a calendar that cannot unify 80% of the energies of the nation.

‘A scientist would not make any sense out of the Rig Veda verses I have quoted. He would not take them seriously since in the first place he does not believe that the ancients had knowledge of such matters. Remember that these verses were composed before astronomy became a separate discipline. In those days throughout the world it was simply astrology, jyotish, albeit quite different than the astrology practised today. That was “science” and it was based on astronomical data which was easily verifiable by calculating the Equinox and Solstice. The tropical zodiac in use then is the same we use today. Its division into 12 parts is important to note, as the Vedic verses affirm. Those 12 parts/months must begin when day and night are equal based on the four balancing pillars of the ecliptic – the Cardinal Poles. Science will focus on the astronomy involved; it cannot be expected to deal with aspects of Yogic/Vedic knowledge. This is the domain of those who have undergone a certain discipline that reveals the higher issues involved. Since this discipline is very demanding, the Rishi asks, “Who can understand this?” It would appear simple to understand, but the truth is otherwise – if not, the Vedic calendar would not have been discarded in favour of what is currently in use: the Nirayana system based on the constellations and not the tropical zodiac of the ecliptic, as in Vedic times. ‘The revelation of the Capricorn super-imposition indicates not only the sanctity of the landmass it delineates but the relevance in its destiny of this particular segment of time, the accuracy of which the yearly calendar is essential to preserve. Indeed, there is perhaps no other nation on Earth today as obsessed with the question of accuracy of measurement of the 365-day year and its connection to the greater cosmic Year than India. These attempts at accuracy are flawed,…but the original obsession remains unperturbed. It is now just a question of focusing the lens of our measuring instruments, be they yogic or scientific. To the yogi aids are given which are unmistakable and easily recognisable. These as well are part and parcel of the original Vision. Namely, the Avataric Line of Vedic tradition, insofar as these periodic manifestations are irrefutably connected to that very zodiac and hence their appearances are readily “measured” in the passing of the astrological Ages. Periodically, under the exacting formulas of the Time-Spirit, they take birth precisely to help in the consolidation of what the Capricorn hieroglyph specifies for India, and through India for the whole Earth, once the “centre” is firmly in place. ‘…It is now, in our very times, that everything Capricorn signifies in the nation’s destiny can reach fulfilment. But as it stands, this cannot happen; and we see the results all around us. ‘…In continuing to follow the Nirayana (Sidereal) system, the Hindu calendar makers are under the delusion that they are following the path of Dharma. The Gathering Storm

What is unfortunately lacking in the consciousness of most people today is the knowledge that behind the apparent reality there exists a more essential occult reality that defines the true context of external events and organises their outcome in accordance with a kind of super-logic moving always toward greater order and harmony. This self-organisation applies to the entire spectrum of our manifest reality from infinitesimal atoms to the vastness of the cosmos with its countless planets and galaxies.
         In the preceding pages the reader has been given a glimpse into this ‘super logic’, what Sri Aurobindo called, ‘The Mind of Light’. It is a consciousness that pierces the veil of appearances and SEES into the underlying web of causality that manifests as our individual and collective life. It is not the fruit of a vision that seeks the transcendence of Time and Space but one that embraces them in a ‘New Way’ revealing an unerring Divine ‘plan’ in the cyclic patterns and cosmological measurements that accompany the Supramental Creation.
         The reader will discover in this body of objective knowledge the undeniable influence, for better or worse, of a true ‘cosmic centre’ and its primary and long anticipated role in the chaotic events now taking place in Pakistan. Over the last year Political and Military strategists in Islam-abad, New Delhi and Washington continue to employ their usual repertoire of brute force, politi-cal and economic coercion with no regard whatever for the more subtle issues involved and the global effect of their unenlightened agenda. None are aware of the level of peril that exists for Pakistan, India and the world if this situation continues unresolved or grows worse with Paki-stan’s nuclear arsenal falling into the hands of religious radicals. Without the timely intervention of persons of knowledge, who can advise the various parties of what is truly at stake, and the peaceful means of resolving these tensions, we are looking at a disaster of epic proportions.

‘…India is free and her freedom was necessary if the divine work was to be done. The difficulties that surround her now and may increase for a time, especially with regard to the Pakistan imbroglio, were also things that had to come and to be cleared out.... Here too there is sure to be a full clearance, though unfortunately, a considerable amount of human suffering in the process is inevitable. Afterwards the work for the Divine will become more possible and it may well be that the dream, if it is a dream, of leading the world towards the spiritual light, may even become a reality. ‘It is for the sake and the triumph of Truth that India is fighting and must fight until India and Pakistan have once more become ONE because that is the truth of their being.’ The Mother, Words of the Mother, September, 1965.

‘My New Way prophecies are coming about, more rapidly than I imagined: India will be the centre of the nuclear play-out. And it will probably have to be India who will solve this issue – with the aid of the Supramental Shakti. Her hand was unmistakably present in the recently concluded elections in India. Increasingly it will be the New Way that will hold as a barometer: whatever favours the furtherance of the New Way will succeed, as the recent election results indicate. Whatever does not will be cast aside. I believe we are fast approaching the time when the Negative will not be useful any more, or at least it will play a far less prominent role as it has done until now. ‘…Those of you who are following world events, particularly what is happening in the subcontinent, THE TIME HAS COME. Pakistan is indeed collapsing and the only recourse is to align with India…

‘It seems to me to be paralleling the world situation. All over we see that a certain extreme is being reached. We stand on the brink of collapse into the Abyss almost in every sphere. I received a letter from JH from Hong Kong today. He is in the top echelon in banking. He has sent me an article to read which I will get to tonight. His point is that the crisis seems irreparable and no one seems to know what to do. Being in the heart of it, he wonders what the point is...

‘This is my feeling. All systems are being pushed to the breaking point. How else to show that what now exists is untenable and will not be allowed? But I do believe that the Controlling Power will just let it go so far and no further.

‘In the subcontinent the situation is especially serious. There are nuclear weapons involved, and the real possibility exists that they will fall into the hands of Taliban extremists. Pakistan stands on the brink of another military take-over. It seems just days away. What will Obama do? Traditionally the Democrats have not been good for India. I believe the same holds true now. ‘I don't think Obama is capable of handling Pakistan. This is the problem: he “occupies a space”, the world turns to him to solve certain issues which his inner fibre does not allow him to solve. Imagine what he would have done post 9/11? This is an example. He would have been frozen to in-action at a time when decisive action was desperately required.’ Thea, Private correspondence, April, 2009

‘These are very complex times in this part of the world. Truly the decisive moment has come which will impact a range of areas. I wrote recently about the nuclear blackmail going on. Since then China has disassociated itself (at least on the surface) from Pakistan who in turn had mentioned China's support as their safeguard. I wrote that I did not think China would want to commit itself to such a lost cause. To gain what? On the surface, so it has come to pass.

‘But the blackmail goes on. It is the only way Pak can continue with its clandestine terrorist activities. This is the proverbial Islamic Bomb. It was assumed that Iran would produce that Bomb, but Pak has had it for over a decade; and it threatens to use it now. America is, according to the latest reports, sitting on the fence. If so, it is because of the very real possibility that Pak would use this weapon when all else fails.

‘The implications, apart from the physical damage, are enormous. India has been talking tough but we know that India has never invaded another country; I cannot see her invading Pak at this point in time. She should have moved quickly, when the proverbial “iron was hot”, if at all this was to be done. In a certain sense things have cooled down, though the “tough talk” continues.

‘The implications are far greater for a world besieged by international terrorism. If India does not succeed in wiping out the Pakistani terrorist operation, alone or in collaboration with other nations, this will give a huge boost to those outfits that are holding the world to ransom. Their activities will increase a hundredfold. If it is true that 75% of all terrorist attacks can be traced to Pakistan, then it is clear that the time has come.

‘This is the burden India carries presently. Her inaction is not without serious consequences. On the other hand, action (invasion with its consequences) is abhorrent to a nation that has always reacted and never taken the initiative. What is more, she cannot even win a war properly, though she wins!

‘It is the play of circumstances that must force the issue in the direction that it is destined to go. We have already seen the Power in action right on 26/11.¹⁰ Unlike all previous occasions, this time an attacker was captured alive. Through his confessions the Pakistan origin of the terrorists was known, along with all the other irrefutable evidence. According to the news, this capture had never happened before. Of course Pak denies that he is their national. This surprising turn of events is what gives an advantage; but at the same time it forces action because there are no escapes from the truth. ‘…26/11 reaching India’s doorstep through the Mumbai Massacre points to a confirmation of the new cosmology’s message: the nuclear weapons play-out would be centred on India. And so it has come to pass. This play-out in its final stage began on 26/11 in the year 2008, indicating 4 remaining until 2012. It was the 45^th year from 1963, thus by the count from the birth itself it indicates not an end but a most significant new beginning of an ennead ending in 2017 and whose mid-point is the 4.5 under discussion, 2012. 26/11 occurring on Indian soil confirmed the trikaladrishti of the new cosmologists. It is a seeing of relations, of interconnections, of a unified One and Many, or Being and Becoming, which is the heart and soul of the truth-conscious Gnosis. ‘…You have in the Pakistani mindset an all-or-nothing outlook. If Pakistan cannot win against India it will do as it is doing now, turn more and more to extremist groups for help (and China; but China has always been in the middle of it all). Its motivation is entirely India, nothing else. The idea is that if it cannot win – and the recent successful elections in Kashmir have proven the point – then it will pull everything down with it. Certainly if any country will start a nuclear war it is Pakistan. The USA is helpless under the current regime.’ Thea, The Pak Situation, May, 2009.

‘In the late 1960’s the Mother, realising the grave peril that existed if India was forced by circumstances to manufacture nuclear weapons, expressed her concerns in the following:

‘…There have been many such crises in man’s history, but all relatively minor ones, yet growing in intensity and preparing for the great final one which we now face.

‘If we can now see this fact, let us next see how we can prevent the holocaust and even, as I have said, collaborate in the evolutionary leap that is preparing.

‘It is clear that the atom bomb and other nuclear weapons are ultimate instruments of almost global destruction. Can we prevent them from being used and how?

‘The key to this new phase of evolution lies in India. This may seem strange when one considers that in many respects India lags behind other countries – but nevertheless it is a fact. The consideration that the new phase [of evolution] will act more in the spirit than in the mind may help one in understanding how India is destined to lead the world on its new path. By that token, it is in India therefore that the destructive process will begin, if the old pattern is not to be followed. A little reflection should make this clear to anyone. Hence the manufacture of the atom bomb by India assumes great significance for the whole world and not for India alone. No matter which other countries, or how many of them make the bomb – there is good chance that human reason with some enlightenment, may refrain from using it. But if India makes the bomb, then there is no chance at all. By this very act, the formation that has been built up for preventing the Pralaya and which particularly protects India will be broken. India will be broken. Then the bomb will be used, widely used – and it will no longer be a question of India defending itself from attack, but of the survival of the whole human race.

‘That India is in this position is not by our choice. It is so ordained by the process of evolution itself. And for this purpose there is a special dispensation working in India that shapes its ends and has preserved its integrity through all vicissitudes.’ The Mother, quoted in The Vishaal Newsletter, October, 1987.

‘There is an immensely important process playing itself out at this vital crossroads of history. What the world is experiencing has little to do with the obvious such as a struggle for energy control, military dominance to further a certain economic system and the lifestyle it encourages; or even neo-colonialism of sorts. It is true that what is transpiring is a clash of civilisations; but we must be more explicit and describe it as it is, and particularly as it is surfacing today with an ever greater clarity. The clash is between the two Orthodox Religions both of which arose in the Age of Pisces (234 BCE – 1926 CE)…

‘The plan of the Time-Spirit for this current Age of Aquarius is quite different than appears on the surface. In its initial stages the focus is on what might be called a “cleansing of the slate”. The dominance of either one of the religions of the Piscean Age is not the goal. What we are seeing today – and indeed what lies at the basis of the Iraqi conflict – is to hasten and aggravate the internal conflicts between the sects on both sides of the spectrum. But the time will soon come when the majority force of Islam will rear its head and turn on its “saviour” Iran. These two forces will destroy whatever pretence either of them has for world domination. This will happen not because one is good and the other bad, one the true faith and the other the false, but simply because the Time-Spirit has moved on. The new world it fosters, and whose moment has come, is a world based on a reality that is not structured on divisive perceptions. It is a world where true unity prevails. But for that to be perceived one has to have the courage, even if in just a small portion of humanity, to accept that the dominant forces of the Age of Pisces are fast fading to clear the slate, be this in the realm of orthodox religions, imperial post-colonial domination, or whatever would pose a threat to the survival of the new world order of unity and truth.’ Thea, SOME THOUGHTS, July, 2007.

‘The turmoil across the globe tends to strengthen the perception that only very few are blessed with knowledge of this new world and the special and superior order it introduces. We are indeed blessed to be part of that conscious movement and we aspire to be ever more conscious instruments so that we may provide an anchor, a stable point amidst the dissolution of the old world that makes way for the new.

‘The process became irreversible as of 1983. Those who see do understand that we have no choice now. The time of apparent choosing has passed. What is required now is to enlarge our vision, enhance our awareness so that we can indeed be conscious instruments of that new world the Mother announced. The purpose of this study group is to help its participants see in understanding; and to realise that the old world, with all its dogmas and belief systems of half light, no longer serves any purpose. None of the old ways, including the spirituality of east and west, can accompany us in this journey of discovery and unfolding. For this very reason these old world prophecies carry humanity to the portals of the 21st century, but no further. They do announce an end, and rightfully so: the end of the old order of which they are a part. How can their prophets see beyond that collapse? ‘Q: You have written it is neither science nor spirituality that will solve our modern dilemma, but it is a third thing.’

‘A: That is precisely the point: neither one is sufficient to present a true perception of reality as it is. Science deals with the material, physical dimension; it is incapable of truly integrating the human factor within that. Therefore, you have the aberrations you see around us today, such as this insane weaponry that is destructive beyond belief. Here we are dealing with science that totally excludes the human element within its framework. It is like robots devising methods to destroy us, with no deeper perception of what resides in each human being – there is no capacity for that.

‘So then, can we say that science is the answer? In the present situation, of course not. On the other hand, spirituality has abandoned the material field and left it to science. This is the point that needs to be stressed in India: spirituality has opted for an escape from the world, from what it calls “illusion” – the field where samskaras are accumulated. They say we must find the way to escape from these chains where we continue the wheel of karma from birth to death to rebirth, and on and on. If we abandon the Earth, our “field”, we should not complain when science steps in and takes over. Spirituality also has no answer, except to say, “All this is illusion, put your consciousness elsewhere, beyond it all”.

‘So this is the conundrum we face today; it’s been building up for several centuries. It is more acute now because science has come up with these extraordinary weapons and we now have the capacity to destroy ourselves. We are concerned with where science is going and we try to arrest it with spirituality, because orthodox religions have proven themselves inadequate; rather they are a big part of the problem. In India we turn to the teachings of the great yogis or realised souls; but in what way is that path adequate? Nothing is arresting this downward slide. We have to question why spirituality is not able to give us the answer. Nobody realises this in India. They believe “Truth is One” and it is all-inclusive; and then that this kind of discourse on spirituality is not appropriate. In fact, it isn’t really “all one”.

‘Well, it is — in the sense that the only truth we know is escapism right now and abandonment of this material plane, for which reason science has taken over. And that is what makes it worthy of discussion now - science has taken over and may destroy the whole works. Otherwise we would be slowly moving along as we have done for centuries, each one on his own path, oblivious of the other. We can’t do that any more – we’re forced to face issues we have refused to look at in the past.’

‘Q: You call your cosmology “Indocentric”. What do you mean by that?’

‘A: Yes, it can rightfully be called that because it is a cosmological paradigm which places India at the centre of an emerging new order. You could say it is the new science; there is a measuring process in which time and space are integrated parts. In ancient India it was the accepted method; we have remnants of this system in every temple and in the old texts. The point is to rediscover those same Laws of Correspondence and Equivalence within the context of our world today. That is what my cosmology does.’

‘Q: Can you be more specific? Provide an example?’

‘A: Using this geo-cosmology, that is, using the globe itself as a measuring device, we locate India at the centre point – and this can be verified. Earlier we would be discussing cosmology from a Euro-centric point of view; not now. But India is not fulfilling its role as the “centre” because there is too much ignorance in this field, too many unknown areas. If the facts were known, perhaps they would form the foundation for a resurgence in the country. But by the very fact that a work of this nature is established here, we know it will not die; and this gives us hope. A time will come when the growth of this experience will overtake the ignorance. Part 5: India’s Irrepressible Renaissance

‘India must find back and manifest her soul’.

India’s Rebirth is not simply a hopeful expectation but a thing prefigured in her ancient DNA. Her civilisation is indestructible and eternal and her approaching renaissance a thing decreed. India is the only nation in the world who can lay claim to a recurring history, eternally relevant and faithful to her ethos and cosmic culture. But the India we see today is a far cry from this dormant ideal. She is a country dominated by her ‘sordid, transient and miserable externals’. Weakened by foreign invasions and alien conquests, her sacred body dismembered by partition, India has become temporarily blind and unable to see herself as the great civilisation she once was. What remains today of the Indian culture, wrote Sri Aurobindo is ‘a vast decay, confusion and inertia’.
   This extraordinary nation that dazzled the world with its advances in the Arts, Music, Astronomy, Science, and Mathematics now finds itself unable to attend to its own needs, let alone uplift the greater world. The culture that astonished the ancient world with its agricultural expertise and abundance cannot now house or feed its burgeoning population of poor and malnourished. And in place of the advanced social systems and wonders of Ayurvedic medicine that India perfected over many millennia, we see acute levels of disease, poverty, urban decay, corruption, and illiteracy. But perhaps most troubling, the most advanced metaphysical culture in the world, the civilisation in whose ancient Vedic scriptures we find the basis of the Future Realisation of humanity, is being ripped apart by sectarian violence and the humiliating indignity of Christian proselytisers seeking mass conversions of her people.
    But even in the midst of this miserable degradation we can see the Time-Spirit already preparing the forms of her renewal. Although unrecognized and unacknowledged, Vishnu’s emissaries have taken birth at their appointed times to unveil and renew the eternal truths known as ‘Sanatana Dharma’. And India’s Soul, albeit in a flawed and disharmonious form, has descended onto her native soil in the form of a Temple of the Age. But this is not enough. By the tentative effect of these events alone it is clear that an Indian Rebirth cannot be imposed. It must also be met with a collective aspiration, a desire for clarity and precision and above all Veda …Knowledge…the very source of India’s power.
   If she is to ‘…gather herself up out of her dust and degradation’, India’s sons and daughters must find the wisdom and unfailing will to confront her disabling falsehoods wherever they exist. In particular, she must reject the myopic view of secular, scientific, academic elites who have undermined the entire cultural fabric of her civilisation. If India’s leaders and deep thinkers are ever to recover the timeless truths that contain the seeds of renaissance they must demand a higher standard of knowledge and embrace a more eternal view. Only then can they distinguish true masters of the Veda from pundits and intellectuals who continue to mutilate its sense and dignity. Discrimination of this kind may prove to be difficult because it will require that scholars be willing to challenge the authority of some well-respected academic and religious figures. Take for example the celebrated scholar David Frawley,¹¹ who has made significant contributions to Indian history in his work disproving the ‘Aryan Invasion Theory’. While he is a notable academic, upon closer examination his conclusions concerning an Indian renaissance are both naïve and contradictory. To persons of knowledge, Frawley exceeds the bounds of his competency when he makes an impassioned call for India’s Rebirth while at the same time promoting the discredited ‘Nirayana’ system of calendar measure that contributed to her
disorientation and malaise in the first place. If truth is to prevail, Frawley must be held to account for these contradictions; but because of his academic standing, no one dares challenge his authority. This kind of scholarly timidity is one of the primary causes of India’s continuing confusion and inertia.
   A less enlightened example of what passes for scholarship in the Indian media is the self important and malicious rhetoric of the secular historian and mathematician, N. S. Rajaram.¹² A friend of the Auroville establishment, Rajaram has done his utmost to slander and ridicule Thea’s character and credentials by publically attacking her in the Indian press. By now the reader will appreciate the incomparable quality of her knowledge as well as her role in the Avataric descent. But today, owing to her blindness, India denies her champions and allows them to be dragged through the mud by arrogant academic elites like Rajaram who have virtually no conception of the deeper metaphysical issues at hand. It goes without saying that if India continues to follow the misdirection and ignorance of the atavistic secular establishment nothing will change for the better and the catastrophe toward which she is headed will be unavoidable. Given existing conditions, we are obliged to consider what Sri Aurobindo wrote in a message to the Andhra University In 1948, just two years before his passing:

‘…It would be a tragic irony of fate if India were to throw away her spiritual heritage at the very moment when in the rest of the world there is more and more a turning towards her for spiritual help and a saving Light. This must not and will surely not happen, but it cannot be said that the danger is not there.’ Sri Aurobindo, Letter to Andhra University, 1948

If this ‘tragic irony’ is to be avoided the Divine Measure must be restored and a knowledgeable elect who understand these higher laws must come forward and inspire a rise in the collective level of consciousness. This must begin with a restoration of the yogic path to Vedic Wisdom and a recovery of the true Vedic/Hindu Calendar. If these two foundations are prepared correctly, India’s vision will begin to clear and she will recognise her long and glorious history as a renewable cycle of becoming with self-evident parallels to the appearance of Vishnu’s Line of Ten Avatars. In fact, tradition informs us that the descent of each one of the Avatars of the Line of Ten is the very method used to lift the obscuring veils. In the Bhagavad Gita, the 8th Avatar Krishna reminds us of this cyclical process of redemption:

‘…Knoweth thou this, O Prince, that whenever the world declineth in virtue and righteousness; and vice and injustice mount the throne - then cometh I, the Lord, and revisit my world in visible form, and mingleth as a man with men, and by my influence and teachings do I destroy the evil and injustice, and re-establish virtue and righteousness. Many times have I thus appeared; many times hereafter shall I come again.’ Lord Krishna to Arjuna, Bhagavad Gita, Part IV, Spiritual Knowledge.

The ‘conditions’ that Sri Krishna describes prefiguring the appearance of the Avatar could not be a more accurate description of today’s world. The time has indeed come, not only for these mysteries to be revealed, but for the acknowledgement of the Evolutionary Avatars who have appeared in our time. In her Secrets of the Earth, ¹³ which will take its place as one of India’s most revered spiritual texts, Thea has laid bare ‘the scheme of Avatarhood’ and with it, the full face of the Cosmic Truth. With the coming of Sri Aurobindo, the 9th Avatar and the Solar Line that he heads, we are now able to follow the evolution through its historical stages of becoming to its final apotheosis in a Supramental Species and a Life Divine.
